The Kirkwood City Council Shooting

A Brief History of Meacham Park

Meacham Park, Missouri was established in 1892 when Elzey Eugene Meacham, a white real estate speculator from Memphis, Tennesse purchased 158.61 acres for $33,308. Meacham named the area after himself. The land was divided into 25 foot lots and sold mostly to whites although Meacham made the lots available at a lower price to attract African Americans. Some of the early settlers in Meacham Park were farmers.

Meacham Park has constantly undergone changes throughout its history both good and bad. Meacham Park was an unincorporated part of St. Louis County until the 1991 annexation into Kirkwood.

My father grew up in Meacham Park. His stept-father also was one the first black who had a confectionary store in Meacham Park. I think it was called “Mullins Store located on Milwaukee Street, in Meacham Park. There were other early settlers that play a big role in Meacham Park, like Lemmie, Johnson, Bell and Rodgers. My great-aunt Aileen Rodgers-Rogers and she and her husband had a store on the corner of Meacham Street and Milwaukee Street. It was like a mini food resturant which included hamburger, hot dog, fries and soda pop.

My name is Charlotte Rodgers-Brooks these people I just name were my family. They also play a big role in the Meacham Park community.
