Forgiveness

While forgiveness is potentially the most powerful of the three strategies proposed, it is also the most difficult. Forgiveness is a process that takes a long time and does not come easily. It is a process that requires deep reflection both outward and inward. It requires trying to understand the situation as much as possible, including from the perspective of the aggressor.

Before learning how to forgive others, many people find it necessary to first learn how to forgive themselves. How do I contribute to racism and what can I do to change this? The process of forgiving oneself can help to break the cycle of victimization and open one up to a greater sense of purpose and responsibility.

While many people are never able to come to come to a place where they can forgive, others may rush to forgiveness too quickly. Try avoid these extremes by making your reflection very intentional.
