To transform our understanding of racism requires a fearless search for the truth. We must strive to understand our differences and our similarities, our sufferings and our transgressions.
When discussing racism, the “other” frequently becomes a target of criticism. It is challenging to instead reflect inward, but I have found that reflecting inward is a painful yet transformational first step to becoming an anti-racist. Before trying to fix “other’s” racism, it is important to address the racism that exists inside of oneself.
As someone who has engaged himself in such a journey, I know how painful some realizations can be. Watch the presentation and read this post to learn some more about my personal journey and for some ideas on how to start on yours.
