The Kirkwood City Council Shooting

The Presentation

“The best presentation I have ever seen by a student on any
topic in my 40 years of working with students.”

Review from Fr. G. Simon Harak, S.J., Director of the MU Center for Peacemaking
and two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee with Voices in the Wilderness

Christopher Jeske, 2009 Szymczak Peacemaking Fellow, made the above presentation at Marquette University in February 2010 for the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking. In this presentation, he shares how his discovery of true and false epiphanies has paralleled his personal journey from a passive participation in structural racism to deeper and deeper practices of life in community.

Weaving together scenes from interviews, social analysis, and personal reflection, Jeske lays out five steps to personal and community transformation.

  1. Decide to take action.
  2. It’s a personal journey.
  3. Find a transformative environment.
  4. Love comes before truth.
  5. Be bold.
